Lectures: Where imagination, technology, mysticism, and foresight meet.

How To Think Like An Afrofuturist

The imagination is the starting point of all manifested reality, but what informs the imagining mind? What is the knowledge-base feeding this visioning practice, and is it the right one for a world experiencing new paradigm shifts that are disrupting oppressive systems? What type of thinking is required to bring those possibilities to life? In this lecture, LaFleur introduces the methodologies of afrofuture thinking and its guiding principles to reorient and reshape our futures and present reality.

Space Exploration, Ethics & Afrofuturism

This lecture is inspired by an essay LaFleur recently wrote about space exploration, ethics, and Afrofuturism, to be published in 2023 by Oxford University Press. LaFleur questions the rapid growth of the space industry and begins to outline the consequence of colonizing Mars and the moon and the mining of cosmic resources, how our imagination around space is being reshaped, and the rapid growth of the space industry and the labor required. LaFleur ends the lecture with her own ideas for ways to ethically move forward.

Blockchain Tech Enabling Black Future Wealth

Historically, securing Black wealth has been a precarious endeavor. Be it the racism embedded in the financial institutions and government policies, or the fragile nature of money being susceptible to racial riots, any attempt at growing and attaining wealth for Black communities has been difficult if not outright dangerous. Blockchain technology offers us the opportunity to collectively create wealth-building systems that can be sustained throughout generations. LaFleur presents experiments with Black wealth-building using cryptocurrency. She also offers her own vision using blockchain technology to create new economic systems that no longer harm the Black body.

Workshops: Think Like An Afrofuturist & Build AFROTOPIA

Groups: Let’s Build the Future Together

How can the activation of the radical imagination inspired by Afrofuturist visions culturally, socially, and economically empower Black bodies now and into the future?

The world is rapidly evolving. Shifting paradigms and disrupted systems are unearthing new, more just, possibilities. What is the vision we can create together that brings those possibilities to life? Guided by curator and Afrofuturist Ingrid LaFleur, we collectively build a new ethically fair world using Afrofuture principles. The workshop begins with a deep dive into the fundamentals of Afrofuturism. Using Afrofuturism as the knowledge base, participants create new systems that support liberation for Black bodies.

This workshop is for anyone who wants to expand their imagination, gain new perspectives and learn new ways of problem-solving. Included is a sound-healing meditation created by LaFleur and a digital workbook. Both are intended for use far into the future.

Individuals: Reimagine Your Personal Future Vision

Transverse your personal landscape and see what narratives are controlling how you envision futures for yourself and others. We investigate how these stories affect your current trajectory into the future and use Afrofuture principles to redirect the vision. We also look at ways to center Black bodies for healing within your personal life. This one-on-one session includes an overview of Afrofuturism.
