Moondance
Moondance served as the closing ceremony for the Public Interest Technology University Network Unconvening hosted by CUNY. Inspired by the Black oystermen of Sandy Ground in Staten Island, NY, Moondance is a meditation that travels the cosmic realms in order to achieve deep relaxation. The oyster becomes a portal into the divine feminine of the moon illuminating the cyclical nature of life. Artist Jasmine Murrell was enlisted to embellish LaFleur’s costume and the Brooklyn-based dance company Renegade Performance Group accompanied LaFleur during her meditation.
Traveling to Turiya
In Traveling to Turiya, LaFleur investigates healing methodologies that cleanse intergenerational trauma from the body in order to create de-colonized futures. LaFleur believes crystals such as pyrite, black tourmaline, amethyst, and bismuth can heal these traumas and help us transcend into the cosmos. Transcending the human experience is the only safe place where futures can imagine freely without limitation. LaFleur believes the map for the future can be found within the transcendent music meditations created by jazz musician and Hindu practitioner, Alice Coltrane. She finds a kinship with Detroit born Coltrane and regards her as a patron saint of their hometown.
